Upscale Local Dining

Locally-inspired menus are the norm in Nova Scotia for good reason. Many restaurants change up their offering depending on what’s fresh and in season. Don’t be surprised to see chefs at the wharf! Pair your meal with a local craft beer, cider or Nova Scotia wine. Our Tidal Bay whites are unique to Nova Scotia and pair terrifically with seafood!

Local Favourites

Here’s an insider tip! Look out for a few local specialties when you’re traveling throughout the province. These are a few favourites worth sinking your teeth into.

  • Moon Mist Ice Cream: A surprisingly delicious flavour combination of banana, grape, and bubblegum ice cream.
  • Donair: This iconic Halifax dish contains spiced beef, cooked on a spit and shaved onto a pita, with tomatoes and raw onions. But the most important ingredient is a sweet garlic sauce that will have you licking your fingers clean.
  • Creamed Lobster: Best known in the Yarmouth & Acadian Shores Region, lobster is sautéed in a cream sauce and served over buttered toast.
  • Oatcakes: Originating from the Scottish (we are New Scotland, after all), our oatcakes are just the right amount of sweet and salty! And they pair perfectly with a cup of tea or coffee.
  • Wild Blueberries: Look for products like juice, liqueur, syrup, beer, baked goods, chocolates, preserves, wine, tea or coffee or good old-fashioned Blueberry Grunt.
  • Rappie Pie: A traditional Acadian dish made of grated potatoes and meat. This dish is available at many restaurants throughout the province, but more widely in Acadian regions.
