New Glasgow

Learn More About New Glasgow

Founded by hard-working Scottish immigrants, named in honour of Glasgow, Scotland, and shaped by years as the industrial heart of Nova Scotia, New Glasgow has forged itself into the metropolitan hub of the Northumberland Shore. The town’s location on the East River made it an ideal launch point for ships that were once built here, a booming industry in days gone by. Today, the East River is the scenic backdrop for numerous multi-use trails that run alongside it.

Visit the Glasgow Square Theatre, an outdoor amphitheater which hosts the annual Riverfront Jubilee, a popular three day music festival which attracts top Canadian and East Coast musicians.

One of Nova Scotia’s most popular warm-water beaches, Melmerby Beach, is a short 20-minute drive outside of town, making New Glasgow the perfect stop. Fuel up on coffee, lunch or snacks at downtown restaurants and cafes before hitting the beach.
