Wheelchair Accessible Nova Scotia: Places to stay, dine, visit and more on the South Shore

Whether you’re taking a day trip or a multi-day road trip to Peggy’s Cove, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Liverpool, Shelburne and places in between, there are plenty of wheelchair accessible places to stop for a meal, to shop, to stay overnight and to take in the sights at all along the way.

Accessible Places to Stay on Nova Scotia’s South Shore

  • White Point Beach Resort: The resort has several accessible friendly guest rooms on the property, elevator access within the main lodge, two Mobi-Chair floating beach wheelchairs and an all-terrain Hippocampe wheelchair. They also have a wheelchair accessible Glome (glamping dome) with a lift for the glome’s private outdoor hot tub!
  • The Lookout Domes: Dome Two is wheelchair accessible with a barrier-free bathroom and shower.
  • The Mallard on Church Lake: Wheelchair accessible A-frame cottage with a fully open roll-in shower with flat drain.
  • Boulder Cove Cottages: Pubnico Cottage is a wheelchair accessible two-bedroom cottage.
  • The Islands Provincial Park: Three accessible campsites, washroom facility with six universal mobility accessible washrooms with individual entry doors.

  • Peggy’s Cove viewing platform: Constructed in 2021, the fully accessible viewing platform, new sidewalks in the village, and public wheelchair accessible washroom facilities makes this much-visited attraction accessible for all. Nearby visitor information centre also has an accessible washroom.
  • Salty Dog Sea Tours: People with mobility devices, including wheelchairs, can board the “Tritoon” Triple Hulled Pontoon boat for tours around Oak Island.
  • Jerry Lawrence Provincial Park: Wheelchair accessible trails, fishing wharf, barrier-free vault toilet.
  • Rissers Beach Provincial Park: Mobi mat located at the day-use beach.
