Welcome to Salt and Tide Ocean Retreat, a four bedroom, three bathroom Cape Cod vacation home located on Shoal Cove near Blandford, Nova Scotia. Enjoy the views of the ocean and watch as sailboats and fishing boats sail by while you soak up the sun either on the flat pebble beach out front or as you lounge on the large front deck with a cold beverage. This is an all seasons vacation home designed with the traveller in mind.
The eat-in kitchen includes a large stainless-steel fridge and full-size stove. The pantry includes a generous collection of spices and cooking and baking supplies – perfect for cooking meals as well as those rainy days when you want to bake cookies with the kids. Walk out to the back deck where you’ll find the BBQ and where you can watch the kids play in the oversized 1 acre lot.
The dining room comfortably seats six for family and group dinners to share the stories and adventures of the day. Views of the ocean from both the dining room and adjoining family room offer bright southwestern facing windows that allows you to take in the amazing South Shore sunsets.
The den with wood burning fireplace is great if you are visiting in the fall and winter months, providing you with a cozy spot to sit and relax and write in your journal after a busy day touring the South Shore.
The main floor also includes a bathroom with a large modern shower and a laundry area with a washer and dryer. When possible, our housekeeper hangs freshly washed bedding out on the clothesline to blow dry so that you can enjoy fresh, crisp sheets.
Upstairs in Salt and Tide Ocean Retreat, you’ll find four bedrooms – perfect for the entire family or for families and friends travelling together. The upstairs contains a spacious full bathroom with double sinks to help make getting ready for the day easier. The primary bedroom comes with a queen bed and has an ensuite bathroom. The second bedroom also has a queen bed, while the shark room and whale room each have a double bed. The two front bedrooms offer ocean views where you can be lulled to sleep by listening to the waves at night.
The beach located across the street from the end of Salt and Tide Ocean Retreat’s driveway is a flat, pebble stone beach which is great for walking on, wading out into Shoal Cove for a swim and it is also an amazing spot for bonfires as you enjoy the sunsets and brilliant starry night sky. From the beach, you can see the two Tancook islands in the distance and, across the Mahone Bay, you can see both the town of Chester and the infamous Oak Island (aka treasure island).
Located on the Aspotogan Coastal Drive (Hwy NS-329), you are just a five minute drive from the popular white sands of Bayswater Beach Provincial Park. The local convenience store and “The Deck” restaurant are a one minute walk . Great for dropping in for a seafood chowder & pie or to get your daily ice cream fix in the afternoon.
There is lots to do in the South Shore in case you are new to the area. Take a guided tour or charter on a sailboat, kayak or fishing boat to enjoy the area from the water. The Aspotogan Coastal Drive is heaven for bikers and cyclists as much of the route is ocean side. In the summer months, it is common to see lines of 20-30 bikers or cyclists peddling past our place. Hop on the Tancook Ferry and drive around the islands to explore the multi-coloured homes.
A short 20 minute drive will get you to either Chester or Hubbards. Make sure you visit the Hubbards Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings in the spring and summer. For sailing fans, Chester is well known for sailing and hosts the annual Chester Race Week sailing regatta each August.
A 45 minute drive from our location is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the town of Lunenburg, where you can spend the day exploring, visiting shops, museums, restaurants, the waterfront and to see the shipyard that built Nova Scotia’s famous sailing ambassador, Bluenose, along with Bluenose II.
Take a day and tour the many vineyards and wineries located throughout the Annapolis Valley (50 mins drive), and if you want to spend time in our capital city, Halifax is only 45 minutes away.
