Step back in time and stay in one of Nova Scotia’s most unique and historic cottages. The whimsical Macdonald Cottage is steeped in rich Bay of Fundy history and heritage and located just 5-minutes from Hall’s Harbour Lobster Pound, 15-minutes from Saltair Nordic Spa & Wellness, and 30-minutes from Cape Split Provincial Park and many Annapolis Valley wineries.
Inspired by construction observed while at sea during the waning days of sail, Charlie Macdonald built a community of cottages at Huntington Point, near Hall’s Harbour, to promote the use of concrete. In the 1930’s, when business slowed at his business “Kentville Concrete”, he and his employee partners bunked at “The Point” for a great marketing venture. Without plans but with a sense of whimsey, they handcrafted five structures of concrete, stone and wood.
Macdonald Cottage was the last one built. It was Charlie’s favourite and the one in which he and his wife Mabel spent their retired summers. For decades, Macdonald Cottage has been a seaside and roadside curiosity. In recognition of public interest, the Macdonalds are offering limited and unique summertime holidays and two-night stays to visitors!
The small, quirky and fun cottage features:
• Hot and cold running water, gravity fed from a spring in the forest
• Indoor flush toilet
• Undercover, outdoor, on-demand hot water shower.
• A small kitchen equip with electric stove, fridge, pots and pans, dishes and cultery
• A wood stove for chilly coastal evenings
• One-bedroom with two ¾ beds and a small cot
• Please note, there is no wifi and limited cell service. Cell reception improves on the nearby beach (approx. 50 m away)

The beach at Huntington Point is popular for finding unique rocks, beach bonfires, summertime picnics, and the perception of Mother Earth’s highest tides nurturing sea-life and notions of pirates and privateers that frequented our shores.
From our Guest Book:
“Thank you for sharing this magical place with us …
We ate, we painted, we explored the beach, and we marvelled at the whimsical scenery of these beautiful cottages and of Huntington Point. The dog is tired , and we are happy. We can’t wait to come back!”
