Overview

The Dalhousie Art Gallery is a public art gallery, an academic support unit within the educational and research context of Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a cultural resource for the entire community. It is also the custodian of a rich and varied Permanent Collection. We offer a program of traveling and in-house curated exhibitions of contemporary and historical artworks, both Canadian and international in origin, and a public animation and education program of artists’ presentations, lectures, panel discussions, film screenings, guided tours, and other special events. All of our programs are open to all members of the public free of charge.

Facilities/Services:

Entrance
The Dalhousie Art Gallery is located in the lower level of the Dalhousie Arts Centre. There is a permanent ramp located at the front entrance of the Arts Centre on University Avenue and automatic doors to assist with entry into the building. There is an elevator on the main floor with access to all floors in the building including the Art Gallery.

Parking
There are three accessible parking spaces located on Seymour Street by the side entrance of the Arts Centre. These have a time limit of 3 hours. The side entrance doors are not automated and there are stairs leading to the elevator.

There are free, 2-hour parking spaces available on some side streets and metered parking located on Henry and Seymour Streets.

 

Washrooms
There is a single occupancy washroom and accessible stalls in the women’s and men’s washrooms on the second floor which can be reached via the elevator. There is an incline from the elevator to the washrooms on the second floor.

Wheelchairs
Wheelchairs are available onsite. Please contact us at (902) 494-2403 if you or someone you know requires a wheelchair.

Child and Baby Friendly
Strollers are welcome throughout the exhibition space. There is a seating area near the elevator where snacks may be enjoyed. There are benches and seating throughout the gallery that can be used for breastfeeding. The single occupancy washroom and the women’s and men’s washrooms on the second floor have change tables.
