Overview
Lose yourself in the steady motion of the wheel while you shape your very own heritage recreation under the experienced guidance of our Potter, Alyssa Hiltz. During this workshop you will learn about the making of clay before trying your hand at throwing and hand-building from our skilled Heritage Artisan. This workshop is adaptable for beginner and experienced potters and includes all necessary tools and materials. Completed projects will be finished by the Potter and later ready for pick-up or mailing to you.
This experience includes:
- 5-hour workshop with the Heritage Artisan; plus 40-minute lunch break and 20-minute afternoon break
- 10% discount to McDaniel’s Tea Room
- Demonstration and hands-on learning session with Artisan
- Your very own piece of history to take home with you

Good to Know:
- Please arrive by 9:45am and check-in at the Visitor Reception Centre. Staff will direct you to the Pottery Shop.
- Participants are welcome to bring their own packed lunch or enjoy a lunch at the Tea Room with your discount.
- This experience will take place rain or shine.
- Bring a water bottle and water dispensers are available to fill up.
- Keep in mind that pieces will need to be dried and fired after their build, this can take up to 3-5 weeks. We will contact you to arrange pick-up/delivery. There’s no guarantee that all pieces will come out of the kiln completely intact; accidents and errors can occur and affect the finished product.
- The workshop takes place in the open Pottery Shop where visitors will stop and engage with the Potter, and likely the participant, but Potter’s attention will be focused on participant while they balance visitor needs.
Dates: Wednesday to Sunday during open season (June to September). Reservations required 48 hours ahead of time.

For safety, please note:
- For safety reasons, wear closed toed shoes and avoid wearing loose clothing. Aprons will be issued by the Potter.
- Minimum height requirement for kickwheel use is 5’2″. Anyone shorter than that won’t physically or safely control the wheel while sitting there. Hand-building is an alternative for anyone who tires of the wheel or doesn’t meet the height requirement.
- Participants must be age 16 and up.
- Maximum capacity for this workshop is 2 people. All tools and materials are provided for use during the program.
Cancellation policy: Cancellations made less than 2 days prior are non-refundable. Participants will be notified 48 hours in advance if experience is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
