Create your own pottery and connect to Shelburne’s vibrant arts community on this unique getaway with hands-on pottery-making and local flavours.

Imagine drinking your morning coffee from your own hand-built mug or serving snacks to friends on a personalized plate. With pottery, the possibilities of texture, colour, and your own creativity are endless! Join local artist, Janet, owner/operator of Dirt to Dishes Pottery, for an immersive experience that introduces you to different pottery forms over a fun and relaxing weekend.

Experience Includes:

  • Work alongside a local artist in a historic seaside barn studio, to try different pottery techniques with gentle guided instruction
  • Hear local stories and inspirations behind her work
  • Friday evening glazing session to learn about colour, glazing styles and technique, while finishing your own mug
  • Morning hands-on introduction to the pottery wheel to try your hand at throwing in a supportive, fun and low-pressure space
  • Afternoon hand building session to create a second piece using texture, forms, and step-by-step instruction
  • A delicious locally prepared lunch in the barn on Saturday
  • Time to stretch and walk along Shelburne’s historic waterfront after lunch
  • A completed mug and one additional piece of your choice to be professionally finished and shipped to you.
    • If you fall in love with more than one piece, arrangements can be made to have it professionally trimmed, glazed, fired and shipped for an additional fee.

Good to Know:

  • No pottery experience required
  • This experience takes place over parts of three days, beginning Friday evening at 7:00pm and ending Sunday by noon
  • Dress for a mess, not to impress
  • All pottery from Dirt to Dishes, including the piece(s) you create, is microwave, dishwasher and food safe
  • Shelburne has several restaurants with a wide variety of food available
  • Shelburne offers a wide variety of accommodations from historic waterfront inns to cottages, many within walking distance
  • Shelburne Guild Hall Market operates June – October on Sundays from 12:00pm – 3:00pm. It’s a great place to meet local artisans, pick up homemade treats, and enjoy live music.

Conditions:

Advance booking and confirmation are required. This experience is designed for a maximum of six participants, with occasional flexibility depending on the group. Full payment is required at the time of booking to reserve your space, and is non-refundable due to a limited number of spaces available. This experience is best suited to adults and older youth and may not be suitable for young children.
