Overview

Experience the life of a woodturner’s apprentice in the 1860s at Sherbrooke Village Museum.

Spend the day working alongside a heritage tradesperson in an authentic living history village. Have fun while learning the fine art of woodturning before creating your very own spoon to take home with you!

Experience Includes:

  • Day Admission to Sherbrooke Village Museum, an authentic living history museum with 25 original buildings and costumed interpreters.
  • Half-day, guided woodturner experience: Work alongside a heritage tradesperson, learn the skills, and try your hand at creating your own wooden spoon. This fun introduction to wood carving includes drawing out your shape, turning the wood on a lathe, and using a chisel and gouge to hollow out the bowl and hand whittle the spoon’s final form and shape.

Offered: Wednesday to Sunday during open season (June to September). Reservations required 48 hours ahead of time.

Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Price: $150 + HST (all materials included) per person

*Participants must be age 16 and up. Maximum capacity for this workshop is 3 people. All tools and materials are provided for use during the program.

Good to Know:

  • Experience takes place rain or shine. Umbrellas can be provided.
  • Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. No sandles or open footwear.
  • Please check in at the Visitor’s Reception Centre by 9:45am. Your Interpreter Guide will escort you to the beginning of your special journey into the past.
  • While Sherbrooke Village Museum can accept same-day bookings, advance reservations help to confirm availability and help guests make the most of their visit.

Yes, the Woodturning Shop is wheel-chair accessible. Please notify the Village of any accessibility needs when booking the workshop to ensure the Artisan can make any necessary adjustments to the space.

3. What if I arrive late for my workshop?
