Whitecaps Summit
Overview
In a word – ‘Breathtaking’.
Whitecaps Summit is a sister cottage of Whitecaps Retreat and Whitecaps Cabana.
Whitecaps Summit is located on the top of the Kraut Point peninsula, near Riverport, Nova Scotia. From its high perch, take in the 180-degree panoramic ocean view, from the LaHave Islands, up the LaHave River and all the way over to Creaser’s cove.
It is located 250 ft from its sister cottage, Whitecaps Retreat (VRBO ID – 1071521) – far enough to have privacy, but close enough for two groups wanting to rent both cottages. Perfect for extended families, Whitecaps Summit has three master bedrooms with king-size beds, and one bunk room with four single beds. Two of the master bedrooms have an ensuite bathroom, and the third shares a bathroom with the bunk room.
The cottage has a modern design, with an open kitchen, dining and living room, from which you can take in the expansive view. The kitchen is complete with all the modern amenities you would expect, and the dining table has space for 10.
Through the large french doors off the kitchen, you enter the screened-in porch with comfortable patio furniture and table for dining alfresco. Off the second story is a sundeck with a breathtaking 180-degree view. This deck offers spectacular stargazing. Wrap up in a fleece blanket from the basket on the second floor landing and count the shooting stars.
The cottage is roughly 400 ft from the water. This region of Nova Scotia is known for its warm waters where the LaHave River meets the Atlantic Ocean. During low tide, play on the private beach, 600 feet south of the beach stairs . A warm beach with shallow sand bars is a rare experience on the East Coast. The beach and stairs are shared with Whitecaps’ sister cottage, Whitecaps Retreat (Property #1071521vb). You will find beach chairs, boogie boards and a lobster boiler in Summit’s shed. The steep driveway and hill to beach stairs offers a mini workout, pack shoes with a good grip for the climb 🙂 If it’s surf you are looking for, Hirtle’s and Kingsburg beaches are mere minutes away.
During all seasons and wherever the tide, visitors enjoy beachcombing the shores of Whitecaps. One of our daughters particularly enjoys photography on beach walks. Some of her photos are included at the end of the collection on this site.
We are located 15 minutes from Lunenburg, a World Heritage UNESCO site and home of the Bluenose II sailing schooner. In the town, you will find restaurants, galleries, a museum, quaint book stores, and charming shops near the waterfront. The LaHave ferry is a 5-minute drive from Whitecaps. Park your car and take the ferry across or drive on board to explore the south side of the LaHave River. Cyclist love this route and also use the ferry for exploring the area.
