Located conveniently at the 5km mark on the Chain of Lakes trail, the 5k Cafe offers local food, refreshments (licensed) and a place to take a break while exploring this popular trail. Prior to opening, the next closest food establishment was at kilometer 30. The convenient location in the Bayer’s Lake Business Park services hotels directly in the area while also enticing visitors to Halifax to explore a bit further afield as a either the perfect starting point to explore further down the trail or as a rest-stop/turn-around point when starting from the trailhead closer to the city. One of the only independent local food establishments in Bayer’s Lake park, the 5k Cafe offers visitors friendly local service, freshly prepared locally-sourced food, and beverages from local wineries, breweries, cideries, roasteries, and kombucha makers. The café décor and environment highlights the many outdoor adventures that can be found in the area through the display and/or sale of art, books, photography and a selection of outdoor gear and equipment. The 5k Cafe is immediately adjacent and connected to 3 Mile Outfitters, which sells a full selection of outdoor apparel, accessories and equipment.
