Occupying a rugged windswept peninsula that juts 6.5 km into the Atlantic Ocean, Taylor Head Provincial Park is the perfect place to connect with nature and Nova Scotia’s coastal environments, including the 100 Wild Islands.

From the parking lot, follow a boardwalk to a beautiful white sand beach with turquoise waters (unsupervised). Relax in the sand, stroll the beach or explore 14.2km (8.8mi) of hiking trails. There are several small picnic areas, as well as change houses and vault toilets near the parking lots.

The park’s trails and walks below provide access to a variety of natural habitats, interesting geological features, wildlife, scenic look-offs, and secluded beaches. The Friends of Taylor Head offer a variety of guided walks and hikes throughout the season. For more information visit: https://friendsoftaylorhead.com/.

Trails at Taylor Head Provincial Park

  • Beach Walk (2km; 1.2mi): Follows along the sandy shores of the Psyche Cove Beach system.
  • Bob Bluff Trail (3km; 1.8mi): This coastal hike offers sweeping views of Psyche Cove, Mushaboom Harbour and the many islands.
  • Bull Beach Trail (6km; 3.7mi): The trail follows Bull Beach, then winds along the rugged coast, overlooking Mushaboom Harbour.
  • Spry Bay Trail (4km; 2.5mi): Passes through coastal forests, barrens, wave swept boulder shores, and a freshwater marsh, with magnificent views of Spry Bay and the rugged coastline.
  • Headland Trail (8km; 5mi): This difficult trail follows the coastline to Taylor Head Point—its rugged and rewarding!

Good to know

  • Help us protect the environment by keeping pets on leash (2m max.) and following pack-in, pack-out guidelines
  • Sturdy footwear is recommended when exploring the coastal hiking trails
  • The main gate closes in early December. However, the park and coastal trails are still open for visitors and can be accessed via Old Taylors Head Road.
