Overview

The Northumberland Fisheries Museum, located on the beautiful Pictou Waterfront in Pictou, pays tribute to the fishing industry in the Northumberland Shore region by bringing awareness of the heritage and culture of the fishing industry, past and present, through collecting, preserving, and displaying of artifacts in the museum’s exhibits.

The museum also helps to conserve the vulnerable lobster populations in the waters of the Northumberland Strait.

Visit the main museum as well as the Lighthouse Research & Interpretative Centre that is housed in a replica 1905 lighthouse that showcases research material, artifacts, and photographs. Stroll along the wharf’s accessible walkway around the facility to view interpretative panels about the Northumberland Strait fishing industry and visit the onsite giftshop.
