Melanson Settlement National Historic Site is the location of a once-thriving pre-deportation Acadian settlement (circa 1664) established by Charles Melanson dit La Ramée and his wife, Marie Dugas on the uplands along the Annapolis River in Port Royal.
This site in the Bay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley region reveals patterns of dykeland agriculture which were common Acadian practices. A short loop trail (193 m) takes visitors to a lookout to view the uplands, marsh and river. Interpretive panels featuring original artwork tell the story of the importance of the Melanson Settlement, a close-knit community of families and neighbours farming together on the dykeland.
