Overview

Explore the fun behind science and technology at Atlantic Canada’s premier science centre and family entertainment destination. Located on the beautiful Halifax waterfront, the Discovery Centre features five state-of-the-art themed galleries for all ages, Atlantic Canada’s only immersive Dome Theatre, a maker space innovation lab, and a featured exhibits gallery that changes three times annually. Be awestruck by live science demonstrations, meet local sea creatures, and get carried away in a giant body bubble.

Experience all the Discovery Centre has to offer:

Indigenous Ingenuity: Pjilaʼsi, welcome.

Explore Discovery Centre’s newest featured exhibit. Indigenous peoples from North America have long demonstrated a great sense of ingenuity, using nature as inspiration. The world we know today is influenced by their innovations and scientific knowledge. The exhibition invites visitors to experience the innovative processes that give rise to Indigenous knowledge by observing, listening, experimenting, and sharing.

Dome Theatre: Marvel at the wonders of the world and beyond in our immersive Dome Theatre. With live star shows and full dome films, you can explore the vastness of space, discover ancient remnants of a star or experience the best seats to a meteor shower.

Innovation Lab: Tinker with code, turn a circuit into a work of art, or admire at our 3D printers at work! It’s a space for exploring new ideas and rethinking old ones, all while developing the skills that drive innovation.

Ocean Gallery: Dive into topics like the Water Cycle, Climate Change, Ocean Exploration, and Marine Ecosystems. The Murphy Ocean Gallery will provide you with a deeper understanding of how the ocean impacts us and how we impact the ocean, in a fun and interactive way.

Energy Gallery: Discover energy in many forms – electrical, chemical, nuclear, and kinetic –while seeing science in action when interacting with imaginative, hands-on exhibits.

Health Gallery: Be inspired with a holistic understanding of how your brain and body works. Interactive exhibits and local, cutting-edge technology show how we can thrive in the 21st century in a new brain-body partnership that responds to today’s world.

Flight Gallery: Learn about the forces of flight – lift, weight, thrust and drag. Design and flight test your own planes, make objects hover mid-air, investigate a real aircraft, and practice flying first-hand with incredibly realistic simulated flight experiences.

Children’s Gallery: A magical place for toddlers and young children to imagine, invent, discover and learn in a safe, full-bodied play environment.

Visitors can explore the Discovery Centre independently, but our friendly facilitators are always ready to showcase live science demos, answer questions, and make your visit memorable. We welcome group tours, with discounts available to groups of 10 or more who book in advance.

Our on-location Discovery Shop has all your travel souvenirs including educational toys, games, and puzzles to continue your learning experience at home.
