Overview

Built by prominent Canadian railway entrepreneurs, Sir William MacKenzie and Sir Donald Mann circa 1905, the Chester Train Station was once a full service train station built for their Halifax and South Western Railway Company. Today, visitors to the Chester Train Station can visit:

  • Chester Municipal Heritage Museum
  • Halifax Southwestern Rail Museum
  • The Foreman Hawboldt Museum
  • Visitors Information Centre (managed by the Village Commission of Chester)
  • Station Antiques: A unique art gallery featuring heritage artifact displays, preservation, and education-focused shop featuring world class paintings, rare books, sculptures, arms, maps and more. A truly educational and cultural experience.
  • The Railway Crossing Gifts: An independent gift shop at Chester’s historic Train Station on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. Discover locally made and unusual gifts, wearable art and products from local and worldwide artisans.

The Chester Train Station also hosts the weekly Chester Farmers’ & Artisan Market and community events and celebrations such as Chester’s popular Canada Day celebrations. Visitors to the Chester area can also access the Chester Connection Trail, a 46 km multi modal trail that stretches along the former railway line from Martins River to Hubbards, from the Chester Train Station property.

Visit the Chester Train Station year round, open daily, 9am to 5pm.
