The Mahone Bay Civic Marina is the community-run gateway to one of Nova Scotia’s most charming coastal destinations. Located on the main wharf in the heart of Mahone Bay — directly on South Main Street, the historic Lighthouse Route — the marina is a not-for-profit operation run by the Mahone Bay Wooden Boat Society under agreement with the Town. For regional cruisers and international voyagers alike, it’s a safe, welcoming harbour with seamless access to one of the most photographed and beloved small towns in Atlantic Canada.
Run by a volunteer team of active boaters, the marina delivers a genuine sailor-to-sailor welcome. The team understands exactly what captains need after a day on the water: well-maintained moorings, deep-water capacity, and the area’s only seven-day-a-week tender service. The marina offers 50 moorings and 300 feet of dock space, available for seasonal, monthly, or overnight rental from mid-May launch through mid-October haulout. Full marina services with an attendant on duty run from Canada Day weekend through Labour Day weekend.
Mooring rentals include water and power hookups, dinghy dock access, tender service (water taxi), shower key, parking, two pump-outs, and internet access. The marina also operates a launch ramp, dinghy wharf, and pump-out station, with ice and other conveniences available from the marina attendant. Washrooms are fully wheelchair accessible.
What makes the Civic Marina stand out is the location. Every shop, restaurant, gallery, café, and pub in Mahone Bay is a short walk from the dock. Cruisers tie up and step straight into the experience: the iconic three churches lining the waterfront, the Mug & Anchor Pub on the bay, Saltbox Brewing, the Tea Brewery, the Mahone Bay Museum, and dozens of independently owned shops and galleries along Main Street. Visitors arriving by boat experience Mahone Bay the way locals do — walkable, welcoming, and unmistakably Nova Scotia.
The cruising itself is some of the finest on the East Coast. Mahone Bay is dotted with hundreds of islands and protected anchorages, making it a destination for sailors travelling the South Shore between Halifax, Chester, Lunenburg, and beyond. The marina is part of that classic cruising route and a natural overnight or multi-day stop. The Civic Marina also plays host during signature town events including the Mahone Bay Wooden Boat Festival, Classic Boat Festival weekend, and the broader summer festival season.
Whether you’re cruising for a night, settling in for the season, or stopping by between island anchorages, the Mahone Bay Civic Marina offers a safe harbour and an authentic East Coast experience — rooted in local knowledge, maritime stewardship, and the genuine hospitality of a community that loves the water.
