Kids of all ages will enjoy a trip to the Annapolis Valley. Hit the road and discover what makes this already special place even more enchanting during the fall.
Apple growing in the Annapolis Valley has roots tracing back more than 400 years. Today, approximately 2.5 million bushels of apples are produced across Nova Scotia, with the majority growing in the Annapolis Valley.
Several operations like Noggins Corner Farm, Willowbank Farm, Boates U-Pick, Elderkin’s U-Pick, Daniels U-Pick, and Dempsey Corner Orchards invite visitors to pick their own apples with several varieties available. Some offer wagon rides to the orchards, while others invite you to drive right in! Many farms offer other produce for picking, like pears and pumpkins or even flowers.
While you won’t be loading these gourds into your car for jack-o-lantern carving, they are an incredible sight, a hit with the kids and make for extra fun photo opportunities. Head to Dill’s Family Farm to check out the famous Dill’s Atlantic Giant pumpkin variety cultivated and grown on the farm, get your photo taken with these VERY large vegetables and be sure to pick up your own perfect (non-giant) pumpkins for home.
Challenge your family to complete the epic cornmaze at Noggins Corner Farm! Each year, the corn is planted in a unique design to challenge those who attempt to weave their way in and out of the tall corn stalks. Don’t worry, there are viewing platforms to help for those who might get a little lost!
While you’re there, visit the u-pick, farmers market, haunted house, and playground area. Weave your way through two other mazes in the area at Stirling Fruit Farms near Wolfville and The Windsor Corn Maze near Windsor.
This family favourite is fun for everyone! Throughout October each year, explore the town of Kentville while admiring the different displays of pumpkin people and interpretations on the year’s theme. View the festival map online to locate larger displays throughout the town but keep an eye out for over 300 pumpkin heads tucked in parks and yards along the way!
Older kids will love this family-friendly historical production that takes place in the evenings. Get in the spooky season spirit as Jerome the Gravekeeper and his otherworldly friends take you through the streets and cemeteries of towns and communities in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley.
Take in the fall colours along the Harvest Moon Trailway, which runs for 110-kilometres and connects the Landscape of Grand Pré UNESCO World Heritage Site to Annapolis Royal. There are 15 trailheads throughout the Annapolis Valley making for easy access from many communities. Stop at restaurants, historic sites, u-picks and farmers’ markets along the way.
