Art, History & Culture

Thinkers Lodge National Historic Site

Did you know Pugwash is home to a Nobel Peace Prize? In 1995, the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs received the award, on behalf of local industrialist Cyrus Eaton, who 70 years early hosted 22 scientists in Pugwash to discuss the threat of nuclear weapons. Today, the Parks Canada National Historic Site invites visitors to explore this legacy through exhibits that include the Nobel Peace Prize and Eaton’s 1960 Lenin Peace Prize. Set beside Eaton Park, the waterfront grounds offer panoramic views of Pugwash Harbour and feature the only fully restored wooden lobster factory building in Nova Scotia.
