Looking for an easy getaway from the city? Hop on the train and head to Truro. With cozy cafés, local shops, and nearby outdoor adventure, this short trip packs plenty into just two days.

1 Day 1: Café Stops & Choose-Your-Own Adventure

Depart Halifax late morning and arrive in Truro just after 1pm. Start your visit at the Red Knot Bakery with coffee and a fresh-baked treat.

From here, tailor the afternoon to your travel style.

Rent a bike from Bike Monkey and head to Victoria Park, known for its scenic trails and waterfalls. Or, explore the trails by foot and climb the challenging Jacob’s Ladder. Kids will love the splash pad and pool during the summertime.

For a more low-key afternoon, stroll Inglis Street browsing local shops like Alderberry Village Craft Cooperative, Take it Outside, or Forage Boutique. Visit the Colchester Historeum for a look at local history.

Afterward, take an easy walk or quick taxi ride to Inn on Prince Hotel & Conference Centre, or stay on the edge of Victoria Park at Seek Wilderness Accommodations, with pick-up and drop-off service available from the train station, with advanced notice.

Wind down with dinner at Nook and Cranny (including live music most weekends) or Olive & Vine Restaurant and Wine Bar and see what’s on at the Marigold Cultural Centre.

2 Day 2: Market Morning & Local Exploring

Enjoy a slow morning as your return train to Halifax isn’t until late afternoon. Start the day at the Truro Farmers’ Market (open Saturdays year-round), where you can browse local goods and grab breakfast. Or for a coffee and something sweet, drop in to NovelTea Bookstore Cafe or LOVUS Coffee.

To explore more of the area, take a taxi ride to Millbrook Cultural & Heritage Centre to learn more about Mi’kmaw culture. Experience the tidal bore at the Fundy Discovery Site. Kids will enjoy the playground and walking the Cobequid Trail that runs along the tidal Salmon River. Or, visit River Breeze Farm in Onslow throughout the summer and fall for a variety of special events.

After exploring, make your way back to the station and enjoy the scenic ride to Halifax.
