Overview
Discover the vast and beautiful universe from the dark skies of Quinan, Nova Scotia – just 30 km from Yarmouth in North America’s first certified Starlight Tourist Destination. Enjoy a two-hour guided journey through celestial wonder at Deep Sky Eye Observatory. Learn to navigate the night sky using points of reference and different types of telescopes, and see the stars like never before with live views from the observatory’s telescope projections!
Experience Highlights:
- Enjoy a 2-hour guided night-sky interpretation with Tim Doucette, owner of Deep Sky Eye Observatory in Quinan, Nova Scotia
- See the stars like never before: During the experience, a live view of what the observatory telescope sees will be projected on the outdoor screen. You’ll also use a selection of telescopes, including The Phoenix 25″ Dobsonian, a 16” Meade Lightbridge and Astro Physics 6” Planet Fire set up on the observing platform. Galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, the Moon, and planets are all within reach from the dark skies of Quinan!
- Hear stargazing tips and tricks from your expert-guide: Learn to navigate the night sky using points of reference such as Polaris and the constellations. Get tips on how to maximize your stargazing experiences.
- Experience North America’s first certified Starlight Tourist Destination (issued by the UNESCO backed Starlight Foundation) the Acadian Skies & Mi’kmaq Lands dark skies preserve encompasses Argyle, Clare, and Yarmouth municipalities in Southwestern Nova Scotia and offers some of the darkest and least light-polluted skies in the continent!
Dates: Offered daily from June 1 – October 30. Start times vary with sunset times (usually between 8 pm and 10 pm).

- Adults: starting at $39.99 + HST and booking fees
- Children (10-years and under): starting at $29 + HST and booking fees

Good to Know:
- Prices differ based on the phase of the Moon. The best nights are between last quarter-new moon-first quarter.
- Zero-gravity chairs are provided during the experience, but you may wish to bring a warm blanket and dress in layers
- Its recommended to bring bug repellent, a water bottle or other snacks and beverages, and your own binoculars if you have them
- Washroom facilities are available during the summer months (June 1 – September 30)
- Alcohol and smoking are not permitted at the property
Conditions: Cancel up to 24-hours prior to the event for a full refund. Refunds will only be issued the day of the event if cancelled by Deep Sky Eye Observatory in cases such as bad weather. Tickets are non-refundable for no-shows. Payment in full is required at time of booking. Once payment is complete, you will receive a confirmation email.
