Overview

Climb to the top of the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and meet your historically costumed guide on the drawbridge at the main gate of the Halifax Citadel. For 70 minutes, you’ll be led by candlelight through tunnels and prison cells, and hear true accounts of unexplained events in their actual locations.

You’re on a nocturnal journey into the haunted history of Halifax Citadel that recounts many a ghost story, tales of the unexplained, all recounted in chilling detail!

Dates: 

  • Public ghost tours run on select Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from July 3 to October 30, 2026.
  • Private group tours are available most evenings, year-round, and are subject to availability.

Price: $23.29 per person (includes HST and Eventbrite fees). Private ghost tours are $245.00 plus tax, and can accommodate up to approximately 25 participants.

Purchase Tickets: Public tour advance tickets are available online and go on sale every Sunday at 12:00 pm for the coming week. You must purchase your ticket the same week as the date you plan to attend a ghost tour. Online ticket sales close at 4 pm the day of the ghost tour. Tickets can be purchased on the night of the tour from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the entrance kiosk, subject to availability.

Private ghost tours are $245.00 plus tax, and can accommodate up to 25 participants. Please note that an additional fee may apply for private ghost tours scheduled from November through early May. Good to Know:

  • Public tours begin at 8:00 pm at the front entrance kiosk and last 70 minutes.
  • Public tours are offered in English only. Private group tours are offered year-round in English and in French.
  • Maximum 25 people per tour.
  • Tours run rain or shine, but may be cancelled in the event of particularly inclement weather.

  • Participants will be notified 24-hours in advance if the tour is cancelled due to particularly inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, and offered a full refund or booking on another upcoming tour date. Cancellations by participants are accepted up to three-days prior to the scheduled day of the tour for full refund.
