Overview
Uncover the story of the Halifax Explosion through the characters and coincidences behind Canada’s deadliest accident. Embark on an immersive, half-day guided journey through Halifax and along the harbour’s edge, exploring the tragic events of December 6, 1917, and resilience of the communities that rebuilt this city.
Experience Includes:
- Guided exploration of key historic sites with entry fees included, such as Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on the Halifax waterfront and Dartmouth Heritage Museum.
- See exhibits and artifacts from the historic event like the anchor shaft from the Mont-Blanc and Fort Needham Memorial Park in the historic Hydrostone neighbourhood.
- Multimedia Storytelling: Picture Perfect Tours uses a variety of archival multimedia such as images, first-hand audio accounts, maps, books, and video to bring the stories of that tragic day to life at key sites.
- Enjoy comfortable transportation and a private, half-day tour experience. Picture Perfect Tours will pick you up and drop you off at your accommodations. Small group tours allow for tour insights to be customized to your group and personalize attention from your guide.
- A per-person donation, on your behalf, to the CNIB a vision loss charity formed in 1918 in part from the Halifax Explosion.
Dates: Offered year-round, daily. Subject to availability. Must be booked in advance.
Price: $675 + tax for 1-to-4 guests. Includes entry fees to historic sites and transportation. Add additional participants to your tour (up to 10, total) for + $75 per person, plus taxes.

Good to Know:
- Custom pick up can be arranged or you can choose to meet your guide at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (1675 Lower Water St, Halifax). Street parking and parkade parking is available nearby the Museum, some costs may apply.
- Tour start time is approximately 9:30 am and end time 3:00 pm. Tour length is approximately 5-hours. A sample itinerary is available on the booking page.
- This unique tour was designed in collaboration with students from the Nova Scotia Community College’s tourism management program.
- Tour runs rain or shine and involves light walking. Picture Perfect Tours recommends wearing comfortable shoes and dressing for the weather.
