Overview

With about 1km (1/2 mi) of soft sands and clear, turquoise water, Summerville Beach is one of the finest sandy beaches on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. The wide sandy beach is backed by sand dunes and a saltmarsh that flows into the ocean at the far end.

Walk or relax in the sand, play in the waves, and bring your bike to explore the Trestle Trail, part of the former railway. The roofed picnic tables onsite make it easy to have a picnic. If you didn’t bring lunch, head to Quarterdeck Beachside Villas & Grill, overlooking the beach for take out or beachfront dining.

Facilities

  • Vault toilets & change houses
  • Picnic tables

Good to Know:

  • The beach is unsupervised
  • The sand dunes are a nesting area for the endangered Piping Plover, so please stay on designated paths and keep dogs on leash
  • Though the parking lot and washrooms are open seasonally (mid May – mid October), visitors are welcome to enjoy the beach year-round, following pack-in, pack-out guidelines.
