Overview

Located in the Bay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley region (Highway 102, Exit 11 south or Exit 9 north) just 40 minutes from metro Halifax, the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park is set on 40 hectares of natural woodlands and wetlands.

Home to 60+ species of animals on permanent display in natural enclosures, these animals cannot be released into the wild as they are injured, orphaned, born in captivity or otherwise imprinted on humans and reliant on our care.

The Park features animals native to Canada with a few exotic species all viewed along a 2km walking trail. Hundreds of waterfowl come to visit the park’s wetlands to nest and rest while migrating.

The Park has been a popular tourist destination since the 1950s. The wide walkways through the park are easily accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, giving everyone an opportunity to see and learn about our amazing wildlife. Interpretive signs throughout the park will tell you everything you need to know about our wildlife exhibits. Interpretive features in the Wildlife Station give a more in depth look at native birds, local habitats and includes a working beehive. There is also a display featuring amazing photographs local photographers have captured of the park animals.

Visit the Wetland Centre to discover the wonders of the wetlands. There are interactive displays, activities, and tanks of live wetland creatures like invertebrates, fish, amphibians, and reptiles. Walk the 1km Wetland Trails to explore a variety of wetlands as well as immersive features like a bird blind, boardwalks, and floating dock. The Wetland Centre and Wetland Trails are wheelchair accessible.

Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the 10-hectare picnic grounds, which has sheltered tables and toilets, plus lots of room for children and families to run and play. Kids of all ages will enjoy the large playground. Look for the trail head to a 1.5km one-way hiking trail into the St Andrew’s Marsh.
