Our beautiful location in Larry’s River, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia is a short walking distance to local points of historical interest, the wharf where trawlers and fishing boats carry on business or a leisurely walk across the footbridge to take pictures and explore the extensive shoreline. Maybe a quick adventurous walk across (and back!) the old breakwater at low tide to the tiny island that used to support the lighthouse.
A short walk will bring you to recreational options and interesting attractions of local historical significance. Your walk can take you to our village’s 95 year old footbridge which has spanned the river since 1924, our 146 year old St. Peter’s church and across the street to the Parc de Nos Ancêtres . A short drive will take you to the breathtaking vastness and beauty of Tor Bay Provincial Park or the newly developed Place Savalette in Port Felix. Be sure to visit their Salle Acadienne to explore local Acadian genealogy at the Communities Along The Bay facility. That facility also provides some interesting recreational opportunities in the form of outdoor exercise equipment and a tennis court behind the building. If you bring a kayak, canoe, rowboat or similar craft the river will provide many opportunities for a scenic tour.
AT THE INN
In our four-table dining area we offer a full course hot breakfast from 7:30 to 9 am. Breakfast can consist of choices including fresh ground coffee, tea, juice, milk, eggs, homemade beans, French Toast, tea biscuits, toast, bacon, sausage, yogurt, jams …..
In addition to our comfortable dining room, the inn offers our landscaped side and back yard while providing spots for reading and enjoying Nova Scotia’s all-too-brief good weather. For our more adventurous guests, we have a garage for storing your bicycles, kayaks, canoes, or other sports equipment during your stay.
All guest rooms feature queen size beds, satellite flat screen TVs and complimentary free Wi-Fi. Our first-floor guest room has a full private bath. On the second floor, one guest-room has a full private bath and two guest-rooms have half-baths with access to full shower facilities on the same floor.
Murphy’s Inn is a non-smoking / non-vaping inn. Smoking is permitted on the surrounding grounds.
Full hot breakfast is included in the room rate; Murphy’s Inn can also provide an evening ‘home cooked’ meal (for guests only) at an additional cost plus tax.
Laundry: all bedding washed in environmentally friendly cleaning agents; all laundry hung on outdoor line (no Bounce or any like chemicals).
