The Greenwood Military Aviation Museum (GMAM) is located at the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 14 Wing in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. As a proud member of the Annapolis Valley community, the museum strives to inspire visitors through a riveting and somewhat immersive collection of aviation-related historical artifacts and displays. The museum is one of eleven accredited Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) museums located across the country and one of only two RCAF accredited museums in Nova Scotia.
Our museum specifically aims to research, collect, preserve and educate visitors, teachers, students and veterans on the history and roles at home and aboard, of the Wing and each of our Squadrons. The museum receives many accolades and awards for the stories about the people, families, community and equipment that formed the fabric of our Wing history along with the stories of adversity and perseverance that make the museum more engaging and an extra special place to visit. In particular, the museum was recognized by the Canadian Aeronautical Preservation Association in 2010 and prior to that by as a provincial indoor site winner by Attractions Canada in 2001.
The museum is located outside of the security zone and open to public visitors. As you enter the parking area, you will already be surrounded by rich Royal Canadian Air Force History. There are a number of outdoor display aircraft in the Air Park and in the summer, you can smell the beautiful roses that wrap around the Memorial Gardens overlooking the outdoor displays in the park. Our Air Park is home to many historically significant aircraft from WWII, the Cold War era, Search and Rescue and more.
Once in the museum you will be greeted by friendly staff that are available to answer your questions or to get you on your way for a self-guided (free) tour. The self-guided tour includes historical artifacts and interesting displays designed to inspire, educate and preserve the stories of the past and present, primarily related to 14 Wing and its Squadrons over the years. Please visit the GMAM website to appreciate exactly what displays and aircraft are available for viewing.
In addition, our dedicated team of volunteers from a plethora of backgrounds are often available to talk to or show you what interesting projects and restorations they are working on. It is truly a special treat to get an opportunity to see them hard at work restoring vintage planes and other artifacts. Stop by the museum often to talk with the front desk staff to see if and when these opportunities will be available.
Periodically, you will have access to some very special WWII aircraft displays located in the museums annex. Ask our staff for dates and times for viewing.
Also in the museum, you will find a full gift shop for that aspiring aviator or history aficionado. Check back often to see what else is new in the gift shop or on display at the museum.
