Giant Bluefin Tuna Charters is the recipient of the 2015 Destination Eastern and Northumberland Shores “Rising Star” award and Capt. John is a three-time International Game Fish Association record-holding captain, having smashed the Junior Female Bluefin record with his 12 year old daughter Jenna Gavin in October of 2014, as well as both the IGFA Women’s 30lb (2016) and 50lb (2018) class bluefin records with his wife, angler Chandra Gavin.

Capt. John and Chandra offer day trips to the local fishing grounds to catch and release these magnificent giants which often weigh in over 1000 lbs. Their love for Nova Scotia and their passion for fishing make them the ideal choice for an unforgettable sport fishing experience. Giant Bluefin Tuna Charters is located in the heart of bluefin tuna country, at beautiful Ballantyne’s Cove, a small fishing village on the shores of St. George’s Bay, home of the world’s largest bluefin tuna. Ballantyne’s Cove is a thirty minute drive (just 31 km) from the town of Antigonish, in northern Nova Scotia, Canada

Signature Catch and Release Private Fishing Charter: Available August to October

This is a private catch and release fishing trip, targeting the most sought-after big game fish in the world, the giant Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, which average 700 pounds off the coast of northern Nova Scotia. Your charter includes all fuel, bait, equipment, tackle and food and beverages while onboard for groups of up to six people. Appropriate clothing and footwear are the responsibility of the clients.
You’ll enjoy the expertise of Captain John who has over 30 years experience, his wife Chandra, your hostess, who works onboard for each charter and has over 20 years experience and their deckhand Craig Wallace who has over 40 years experience.
