Beyond the Wharf Artisans
From May 16, 2025 to October 13, 2025
Cresthaven by the Sea, a waterfront bed and breakfast, lies on the shores of historic Maitland just minutes from where the world’s highest tides were recorded. Situated on the shores of the Bay of Fundy, Cresthaven provides one of the finest examples of Maitland’s elegant historic homes that has made the village Nova Scotia’s first Heritage Conservation District. Constructed by the master carpenters of the local shipbuilding industry, the homes of Maitland provide an extraordinary exhibition of unique 19th-century architecture. Cresthaven was built in the Classical Revival Style by Captain John Macomber in 1859.
Situated high atop a bank overlooking the Bay of Fundy where the historic Shubenacadie River branches off, the property includes what was the original wharf, where residents would board a small ferry to be carried across the river. Sunrises and sunsets are always breathtaking. Experience the power of Fundy and go tidal bore rafting. Revisit the golden age of shipbuilding at the Lawrence House Museum. Visit local artists, and walk on the ocean floor where the world’s highest tides were recorded. With the airport just 45 minutes away and Halifax within an hour Cresthaven is your ideal central stop while visiting Nova Scotia. Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island are both just two hours away.
Our accommodations include three luxury suites (queen-size beds) with ensuite 3-piece and 4-piece baths and water views. Wi-Fi available. Lounge on the deck to watch the famous Tidal Bore or enjoy a walk along the beach at low tide, where you will be delighted by plenty of local wildlife, including the majestic eagle. A full breakfast is served. All major credit cards are accepted.
