Wind your way up the tree-lined drive to the main house, built in 1835 during Windsor’s time as a prosperous port and university town. Hear of the many families and businesses who used the property, and the unique changes each made to suit their needs, from the original Haliburton family and early gypsum mines, to its time as a hotel and poor relief housing.
Tour the house to experience how the estate would have functioned during the aristocratic days of Thomas Chandler Haliburton. As Canada’s first international best-selling author, and judge, Haliburton was often noted for his humour and political satire, however, he has become recognized as an example of racism and bigotry during the mid 19th century in Nova Scotia. See antiques and memorabilia from the grand elegance of the entertaining rooms to the hard-working hearth kitchen.
Explore the natural beauty of the property, featuring trails, orchards, ponds, and picnic areas.
Wednesday – Sunday, 10am – 4pmGrounds, trails, and disc golf are free and open year-round.
