Overview

A series of gardens and an extensive plant collection on the 60 hectare Agricultural Campus of Dalhousie University provide a living laboratory for the landscape horticulture program. Trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, and farm crops are displayed and interpreted in both functional use settings and in naturalistic areas.

Themed areas such as the Rock Garden and Herb Garden feature courtyards, walls, and natural stone. The Rock Garden, covering one-half acre of land situated on a south facing slope, consists of a rock face, two dry streams, a gravel scree bed, and a damp area, providing a wide variety of habitats for plants including a collection of dwarf conifers and alpine and saxatile plants.
