Overview

Journey back in time and experience the life and culture of a Nova Scotia village. Be your own Victorian when you dress the part with tailored costumes made by our staff, engage with our interpreters, and let your imagination unfold as you immerse yourself in 19th century life. This experience also includes a light Victorian Tea at McDaniel’s Tea Room.

This experience includes:

  • 4-5 hours in period costume, complete with lessons on grammar and etiquette
  • Full day access to the Village, including all public buildings
  • Victorian Tea; includes tea, sandwiches, crudités, scones and sweets

To make the most of your experience, we suggest planning ahead.

Good to Know:

  • Arrive 5-10 minutes before the start of your experience and make your way to the Visitor Reception Centre
  • Dressing in costume can take up to 45-60 minutes depending on size of group, please arrive on time and share your measurements at least 24 hours ahead of time
  • Hairstyles: Ladies are encouraged to wear their hair in a low bun, girls are permitted to wear their hair down
  • Experience will take place rain or shine. Umbrellas can be provided.
  • Wear comfortable black or brown shoes and bring water for hot days

Dates: 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday during open season (June to September). Reservations encouraged to ensure availability.

Length: About 4-5 hours

Price: starts at $30 per person.*

*Please note that children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult while on site. The adult isn’t required to dress up in costume but must remain on site.

Cancellation policy: Cancellations made less than 2 days prior are non-refundable. Participants will be notified 48 hours in advance if experience is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Our staff work diligently to ensure each experience is the best one, this includes making sure costumes are ready for the next group of visitors. To ensure costumes are cleaned and ready to go for the next group, we ask that costumes be returned by 4:30 p.m.

FAQs
1. Where can I put my belongings while I’m in costume?
Belongings will be stored in our Hands-on-History Explorer Office. Staff are present throughout the day, and the building is locked when vacant.

2. What if I damage the costume I wearing?
We understand that accidents happen. Please notify one of our Interpreters or the Dressing Team as soon as possible so that alterations can be made.

3. What if I have food allergies?
Our Team Room staff are ready to welcome you. Please notify us of any allergies and we’ll do our best to accommodate. The Team Room is a peanut-free environment, and with advanced notice exceptions can be made for anyone with gluten free preferences.
