Keppoch Mountain
Open year-round
Keppoch Mountain is a former alpine ski hill that has been revamped as a four-season outdoor recreation facility run by a non-profit organization offering 40 kilometres of non-motorized, multi-use wilderness trails, with ample parking, a clubhouse, bathroom facilities (both indoors and outdoors), a large patio, fire pit, bike repair and wash station, and ample seating both at the clubhouse and on the trails.
Enjoy mountain biking, off-road cycling, bouldering, swimming, hiking and trail running all year long and then snowshoeing, fat-tire biking and Nordic skiing in the snowy winter months. One trail is fully wheelchair accessible with low grades and crusher dust to ensure « every body » can experience the Keppoch.
Hosting many events throughout the year, including two Family Fun Days during which our trail fees are waived, as well as several family-oriented activities that highlight the facility throughout the year, we also host multiple runs, races and hiking events, along with outdoor educational seminars and classes.
The gem of Keppoch Mountain is the almost 30 kilometres of purpose-built mountain bike trails. Ranging from 500 metres up to 5 kilometres, the trails are built to accommodate the first-time beginner or the experienced expert, with something for everyone in between. From late May to late October there is a shuttle service on weekends to transport riders and their bikes to the top of the hill. Bike-related activities are also supported by a newly refurbished pump track, a kids-specific learning trail and almost 10 kilometres of gravel trails for a more casual family-friendly wilderness cycling experience.
More than nine dedicated downhill mountain bike trails round out the offering for the more adrenaline-minded visitors. With lengths from 500 metres to almost 1500 metres, there is no lack of challenge here. One of the original trails – “Chicken Cougar” – is a fan favourite and suitable for riders of all levels. During the snowy months, these trails make for heart-pumping and challenging snowshoe experiences.
Our most popular trail is our 5 km Summit Loop. This multi-use trail ascends the 180-metre vertical elevation gain to the peak of Keppoch Mountain. Hikers and bikers are greeted by scenic vistas out to the Northumberland Strait and across the Keppoch-Beaver Mountain region.
On top of the trails, amenities at Keppoch Mountain include:
As a non-profit, Keppoch Mountain relies on trail fees and donations to support the facility. Yearly memberships and day passes are available at the lodge or online.
