Overview
Built by Sir William MacKenzie and Donald Mann circa 1905, the Chester Train Station was once a full service station built for their Halifax and South Western Railway Company. Today, the Chester Train Station operates as a museum, a retail shop, Station 20 Shoppe, featuring handmade products from over 40 local artisans as well as being a community hub that offers a range of historical and cultural exhibits and activities that celebrate local history and artists, including:
- Explore Oak Island display, the oldest Oak Island exhibit that includes artifacts, historical pictures, and insights into the famous treasure hunt.
- Chester Train Station display that highlights the train station’s history and significance to the area.
- Foreman Hawboldt exhibit displaying pumps and other machines designed by Hawboldt that helped revolutionize fishing boats.
- Gold Mining display provides information and history on gold mining in the region.
- Nova Scotia’s First Female Farrier exhibit brings to light the importance and achievements of the province’s first female farrier.
