Overview

Wind your way up the tree-lined drive to the museum, built in 1835 during Windsor’s time as a prosperous port and university town. Hear of the many families and businesses who used the property and the unique changes each made to suit their needs, from the original Haliburton family and early gypsum mines to its time as a hotel and poor relief housing.

From early June to early October each year, tour the museum to experience how the estate would have functioned during Thomas Chandler Haliburton’s aristocratic days. As Canada’s first international best-selling author and judge, Haliburton was noted for his humour and political satire. However, he has become recognized as an example of racism and bigotry in Nova Scotia during the mid-19th century.

You’ll see antiques and memorabilia from the grand elegance of the entertaining rooms to the hard-working hearth kitchen. Be sure to explore the park’s natural beauty that features trails, orchards, ponds, and picnic areas.
