Halifax Distilling Company is a woman-owned and operated distillery and the maker of the award winning J.D. Shore line of distilled spirits. Since July 2016, Halifax Distilling Co. owners Julie and Arla have been distilling in downtown Halifax, producing a line of JD Shore products that include traditional white, black, amber and spiced rums, a vodka, and their popular line of creamed rums that feature flavours such as S’Mores, Death by Chocolate, After Eightish, and their star, Canadian Creamed Rum. Master Distiller Julie, a 5th generation distiller from North Carolina, pays homage to her grandfather, I.C. Shore, through a line of limited reserve edition single barrel spirits carrying the IC Shore name, including Rye Whisky and Canadian Rye Whisky along with a creamed whisky.
All J.D. Shore rums are made in the distillery’s custom-built copper still and blended with a fine Caribbean rum to produce a high quality fine rum. Julie and Arla are proud to carry on the tradition of producing locally distilled rum and handcrafted spirits. After all, women created the first still, beer, and single malt scotch.
