Overview

Sir Sandford Fleming Park, also known as The Dingle, is located off Purcell’s Cove Rd, on the Northwest Arm in Halifax. The park is 95-acres in size with four natural habitats – woodlands, heath barren, saltwater and a pond – and includes:

  • walking trails including a seawall walkway
  • the Dingle Tower with bronze lions at the foot
  • a sandy beach (unsupervised swimming)
  • picnic tables and picnic shelters
  • benches
  • playground
  • washrooms
  • a wharf and a boat launch

The park was donated to Halifax in 1908 by Sir Sandford Fleming, creator of Standard Time Zones while the Dingle Tower was dedicated in 1912 to commemorate 150 years of representative government.

The Dingle Tower is open between 8 a.m. and dusk from April 1 – October 31.

Please do not feed the ducks and waterfowl as it interferes with their natural spring and fall migratory patterns. There is plenty of natural food sources available throughout the park and waterway for them.
