Overview

The Shearwater Flyer Trail section of the Trans Canada Trail is a multi-use linked trails system on a former railbed that starts by the Department of National Defence Shearwater (Corsair Drive) and travels out to join the Salt Marsh Trail and the Cole Harbour Heritage Park at Bissett Road. The trails connect the urban core with the trails of the Eastern Shore, forming the Cole Harbour Lawrencetown Coastal Heritage Park system including the popular Lawrencetown Beach.

This is an ideal route for touring on bicycles – it is level, safe and linked to city bike routes which can connect you to the Halifax Ferry terminals and Fishermen’s Cove.

The Shearwater Flyer Trail is an 8.5 km (17 km return) inland gravel trail through lush forest with some marsh areas. The trail is popular for bird watching as well as hiking, walking, cycling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
