North Highlands Nordic Cross-Country Ski Facility (NHN) is located in Cape North, on the northeast corner of the Cabot Trail just outside of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park on Cape Breton Island. Offering over 10 km (6 mi) of daily groomed trails (snow and weather permitting) for classic and skate ski technique, the NHN is where everyone can visit to enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the snowy winter months surrounded by incredible views of the Cape Breton Highlands mountain range within the Polletts Cove-Aspy Fault Wilderness Area.
Along with the trails, the NHN facility features a large Nordic centre with a cafe and a social gathering room with plenty of places to site, relax and warm up before and/or after your ski and snowshoe adventure. The onsite NHN Nordic Cafe serves their popular Saturday morning breakfast with coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available throughout the week. Special events where a prepared hot lunch or dinner meal is included are offered throughout the season as well.

Be sure to visit the NHN website to learn about winter events and special family festivities that take place throughout the winter season and year-round. From special events on weekends, holidays and during March Break, to guided Full Moon and Moonlight Snowshoe Hikes, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to experience the Northern Cape Breton winter wonderland at the North Highlands Nordic Cross-Country Ski Facility!
Passes and Equipment Rentals
A list of rates for daily trail passes, seasonal trail passes, and equipment rentals of skis and snowshoes to use on the NHN trails are available on the North Highlands Nordic website. Instructional clinics and lessons can also be arranged – please contact us for more details.
