Overview

Discover the local history of the railway, the ferries, the fisheries and more when you visit the Mulgrave Heritage Museum and Visitor Centre.

Once the gateway to Cape Breton Island from mainland Nova Scotia, Mulgrave was home to the Scotia II ferry service that operated between 1833 and 1955 until the Canso Causeway was opened. The museum building, fashioned after the Scotia II ferry which carried railcars, passengers and their vehicles across the Strait, is also home to displays related to wartime history and detailed models of the vessels that once sailed in Mulgrave and in the Strait of Canso.

The Museum is open 9am to 5 pm, 7 days a week from Canada Day through the Labour Day weekend. Appointments outside of peak season can be made by contacting the museum.
