Mountain Vista Seaside Cottages & Campground is centrally located within the Bras d’Or Lake Biosphere Reserve in Big Bras d’Or, making us a perfect homebase to allow you to explore Cape Breton Island on day trips to major attractions. We are located just 20 minutes from the start of the famous Cabot Trail and from North Sydney and Newfoundland Ferry terminal; 35 minutes from the village of Baddeck; and 60 minutes from the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site.
Our Mountain Vista Seaside Cottages includes:
seven cottages and/or motel-style guest units
Units 2A and 2B; 3A and 3B, and; 6A and 6B can be rented together to create three, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottages with a kitchenette – 2AB, 3AB, and 6AB
Separately, four of our units are equipped with kitchenettes with all the basic utensils and equipment
Cottage 7 is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom cottage that is set back on the property with no direct ocean view
All seven guestroom and cabin units have air conditioning, cable TV, and Wi-Fi along with a patio or deck, most with spectacular ocean views and of the beautiful sunsets over Kelly’s Mountain.

Boat tours with Bird Island Boat Tours

Bird Island Boat Tours
Since 1972, the Van Schaick family has owned and operated Bird Island Boat Tours, which today is the longest running boat tour business in Cape Breton. Each year, we offer daily boat tours from mid-May to late August to the Bird Islands, located off the coast of Cape Breton Island. Departing directly from our wharf on our property, participants on the boat tours may see an assortment of sea birds and sea life including Atlantic Puffins, Cormorants, Northern Gannets, Bald Eagles, seals, and more.
Check-in is at 2pm; check out is at 11am. No minimum stay required. Discounts for overnight stays of 3+ consecutive nights available.
