Hideaway Campground & Oyster Market offers open and wooded campsites overlooking scenic Aspy Bay and Highlands mountain range from the community of South Harbour on Cape Breton Island. South Harbour is situated at the half-way point on the legendary Cabot Trail with pristine sandy beaches and beautiful views all around us.
We are a small, friendly campground that offers activities for the entire family including a children’s playground, horseshoe pits, recreation hall with a pool table, and a hiking trail to the Aspy River. Relax on our patio deck and join us for Aspy Bay Oysters, snow crab or lobster at our licensed eatery.

Camp sites have an average of 1,000 square feet of space and has it’s own fire pit with grill and a picnic table. The washroom facilities with flush toilets and showers are just a quick walk from all sites.
Our seven camping cabins include three cabins that will sleep 5 people comfortably and four cabins that will each accommodate two people comfortably. Each cabin comes with beds, dining table and chairs, an outdoor fire pit with grill and a picnic table. Five of the cabins do not have electricity while the one closest to our office is equipped with electricity, cold running water, a small fridge, microwave, kettle and a few dishes. Please bring along your bedding or sleeping bags, towels, etc. as bedding/linens are not provided. Guests staying in the cabins have access to hot showers, washrooms and laundry facilities in the campground.
Our Glam Tent glamping tents include a queen bed, bedding & towels, side tables with solar lighting, a private deck with Adirondack chairs and propane grill, picnic table and firepit. Their private location within the campground comes with a fabulous view while still keeping you close to washrooms and facilities.
RV trailer rental: This 38′ RV unit with 3 slide-outs offers all the comforts of home. Relax in your master bedroom with king-size bed, leather living room furniture with pullout couch, satellite TV and electric fireplace, three-piece bathroom, kitchen with fridge, stove, kettle, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, pots and cutlery. Outside, relax on your private own deck with BBQ, picnic table and fire pit.
Campground amenities include:
Fresh shucked oysters from our oyster farm, served with a variety of condiments at our onsite Oyster Bar. Free shucking lessons available. When in season, Atlantic Snow Crab and Atlantic Lobsters are also available.
Pets are permitted in campsites but not in the RV rental or Glam Tents. Pets must be kept on a leash and owners must clean up after pet.
Other nearby activities includes canoe and kayak rentals; whale watching tours, gift shops and restaurants. Our central location makes us a great home base to visit other part of the Cabot Trail, such as the Highland Links golf course and the Acadian village of Chéticamp.
