As fishing season transitions to summer on the Northumberland Strait, our fishermen turn their boats into pleasure crafts, offering experiences from SightSEAing boat tours and incredible sunset cruises to Pictou Island adventures and our delicious Love Lobster tours.

All Discover The Strait boat tours take place on spacious 45 foot Northumberland fishing boats and are equipped with shade cover and washrooms. All tours are limited to 10 passengers per boat and adhere to Transport Canada’s safety regulations, ensuring a memorable and safe experience on the Northumberland Strait.

Our Tours
Each Discover the Strait tour begins at a real working fishing wharf, where you’ll meet your captain and receive a safety briefing before setting sail on your chosen adventure.

SightSEAing Tour
Sit back and take in the beautiful coastline peppered with sandy beaches, sea life, tree lines, quaint homes and authentic Nova Scotia villages. Your captain will share some local insights as you cruise along the Northumberland Strait.

Mackerel Fishing Tour
Your captain will navigate the Northumberland Strait in pursuit of schools of mackerel, while you soak in the sights of Nova Scotia’s Northumberland Shore. They’ll target prime spots, equip you with all the gear, and offer expert guidance to reel in some tasty mackerel. It’s an ideal fishing adventure for kids and beginners alike.

Fish n’ Chips Sunset Cruise
Savour a Northumberland Sunset while dining on classic Nova Scotia fish and chips! Cruise into Pictou Harbour and relish in a Nova Scotia tradition as your dinner is delivered directly to the boat from a local waterfront favourite. Then, sail back, bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun over the Northumberland coastline.

Cruise to your adventure on Pictou Island! Drop anchor off a secluded sandy beach. Paddle board, swim or snorkel from the boat. Explore an expansive stretch of serene sandy shoreline. Hunt for sea glass, sand dollars and seashells. Dock alongside fishing and pleasure boats at the Pictou Island Wharf and explore nearby island features by foot or rent a bike. You can even learn to Mackerel fish!

Love Lobster Tour
Ever wonder how to catch a lobster? Cruise to your captain’s fishing grounds where they will haul a lobster trap from the ocean floor, and share a lifetime of knowledge about fishing on the Northumberland Strait. Try your hand at hauling a lobster trap up over the gunwales or experience the thrill of taking the helm.  Then, enjoy a delicious lobster roll lunch as you cruise Nova Scotia’s scenic north shore coastline.

Lobster Fishermen for a Day
Board a working Northumberland Strait lobster fishing boat for a full day of lobster fishing. Observe the captain and his crew pushing traps up the washboard, measuring and picking lobsters, baiting traps, and banding lobster. You won’t leave this experience empty handed or empty hearted. Your captain will send you home with two live tasty Northumberland Strait lobsters, and a deep understanding of their culture and traditions.
