Overview

Hike the Ocean Floor

The Bay of Fundy is famous for having the world’s highest tides, and this unique hike takes advantage of low tide to explore areas that are normally underwater. We follow a loop route—so there’s no backtracking—walking across tidal flats, through a natural arch, and right up to dramatic sea stacks.

This spectacular guided hike follows the same iconic route as our Three Sisters kayak tour in Cape Chignecto Park. This land-based adventure includes incredible photo opportunities and our signature seaside picnic.

This hike isn’t listed in any guidebook or online map, and we strongly discourage attempting it without a guide due to the rapidly changing tides and remote terrain.

Tour Highlights

  • Walk on the ocean floor while the tide is out
  • Explore hidden beaches and sea caves rarely seen by others
  • Pass through a natural sea arch
  • See the dramatic Three Sisters sea stacks from above
  • Enjoy a locally-sourced picnic
  • Hike a loop route (no backtracking!)
  • Learn about the area’s geology, tides, and history from an experienced guide
  • Capture stunning photos in unique, off-the-beaten-path locations
  • End on easy forest trails with panoramic coastal look-offs

Duration:
Similar to our kayaking day tour, this experience lasts approximately 5–6 hours, including picnic breaks and plenty of time for photos. The actual hiking time is about 2.5–3 hours.

Terrain Overview

1. Red Sand Mud Flats
We begin on expansive, rippled red sand flats exposed by the receding tide. This section is scenic and relatively easy, though your footwear may get wet and muddy.

2. Rocky Ocean Floor
Approaching a natural sea arch, we traverse a rocky seabed surface. As we make our way around Squally Point toward Owl Rock, the footing becomes more intermediate, with some uneven terrain.

3. Groomed Forest Trails
After reaching the beautiful beach at Anderson’s Cove, we join the park’s trail system. The final leg features well-maintained trails with viewing platforms offering sweeping views of the Three Sisters and other landmarks.

What to Bring:
Please wear sturdy footwear that you don’t mind getting wet or muddy. Proper shoes are essential for both comfort and safety on varied terrain.
