Overview

The art of Bladesmithing is thousands of years old and found in cultures all over the world. Bladesmiths use various metalworking techniques to forge blades, woodworking skills for knife and sword handles, and leatherworking knowledge to make sheaths. Wildertools, is helping to keep this craft alive, creating functional art, in Nova Scotia.

Owner and Artisan Bladesmith, Rick Marchand, has been honing his craft since 2007. Rick, draws inspiration from the tried-and-true designs that many have used before him. He sees what works and attempts to break it down to the raw essentials. While his artistic pieces allow him the joy of expressing his creativity, his true passion lies in shaping and refining working tools, meant for hard use.

Over the years, Rick has carved a name for himself in the custom knife world. His work has been showcased in many international publications, tradeshows, videos and social media platforms. Wildertools, has appeared in local television shows, books and magazines. Additionally, Rick has taken on commissions for the Hollywood film industry. His knives can be seen in 20th Century Fox’s “War For The Planet Of The Apes” and recently, Disney’s “Jungle Cruise”, in the hands of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson.

Wildertools also offers Bladesmithing workshops, classes, extended courses and experience packages. If you’re a hobbiest knifemaker, curious about knife and tool making or just want to immerse yourself into the daily life of an artisan bladesmith, this is for you!
