Overview

Sherbrooke Village is Nova Scotia’s largest provincial museum – an authentic living history site that is a jewel on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore.

In the 1860s, timber, tall ships and gold ruled life along the Napu’saqnuk/St. Mary’s River, turning the community of Sherbrooke into a prosperous boom town. Today, the picturesque village still stands proud, just as it did more than 150 years ago.

At Sherbrooke Village, every day is a trip back in time as Nova Scotia’s 19th century rural heritage is brought to life by costumed interpreters, including the blacksmith, woodturner, potter, weaver and printer. Discover traditional crafts and trades like soap making and chairmaking; experience the sights, smells and sounds of a water-powered sawmill to see softwood transformed into precious lumber; and connect with Nova Scotia stories, people and heritage… and even the Village’s friendly farm animals. The Village is also home to Canada’s longest running commercial Ambrotype photography studio, this year celebrating it’s 50th Anniversary!

Complete your visit with a delicious meal at McDaniel’s Tea Room & Restaurant and a visit to Village Treasures & Gift Shop for a wide selection of unique village crafted pottery, ironworks, weaving, wooden items, handmade gifts and souvenirs.

Looking to make the most of your visit? Consider one of our unique experiences:

Explorer Experience
Take your journey back in time further when you dress in period attire and become a part of the Sherbrooke Village story. You’ll spend an afternoon conversing with other interpreters throughout the village after a short lesson on 19th century grammar and etiquette before enjoying a light afternoon tea at McDaniel’s Tea Room. Reservations are strongly encouraged.

Gold Rush! Escape Room
Gather your team before you’re dropped into the middle of a botched gold heist and must uncover the truth before time runs out. Launched in 2025 in partnership with Captured Escape Rooms, this widely popular experience is great for groups of 2-6 people.

Artisan Workshops
Take your journey through time a little deeper during a full day workshop with a heritage Artisan. Choose from day with the Blacksmith, Potter, Printer or Woodturner, and come away with something truly unique. Must be booked 48 hours in advance.

Then, in the off-season, mark your calendars for:
‘Shadow of Sherbrooke Village’ Ghost Tours
As October approaches, the Village’s newly acclaimed Ghost Tours lead brave visitors through shadowed streets and stories that have made these tours perennial sell-outs. Reservations are strongly encouraged – it sells out fast!

Christmas at Sherbrooke Village
Celebrating it’s 30th anniversary in 2026, this event is a must-attend during the holiday season. Featuring animated heritage buildings, local artisans, food, children’s activities, wagon rides and interactive festive art installations, this award-winning event returns with new and returning programs to help you build memories with family and friends.

Throughout the season, Sherbrooke Village also plays host to an ever-changing lineup of concerts, festivals and feasts, transforming spaces across the site – from historic Main Street to one of three intimate concert venues – into lively gathering spaces that blend Nova Scotian heritage with unforgettable experiences.
