Overview

Located at the Sandford Wharf in Yarmouth County, discover what is believed to be the second smallest working drawbridge in the world when you visit the Sandford Drawbridge.

The wooden drawbridge, built in 1915 to allow boats to enter the inner harbour at high tide and to allow fisherman to cross from one side of the wharf to the other without having to drive back and forth around the harbour on the nearby road. Low tide in the Bay of Fundy will display fishing boats sitting on the harbour floor in the wharf.

Please note: The Sandford Drawbridge is located within a busy, working fishing wharf with large equipment and vehicles frequently moving around the wharf. Visitors are to abide by all signs, park in designated areas, and to pay close attention to traffic entering and exiting the wharf as fisherman unload their catches into waiting trucks.
