The Groundswell Inn & Pub is a friendly spot located among the breathtaking coastal paths and nature trails of Cape Breton in the Acadian community of D’Escousse. Looking out upon the ocean, our Inn accommodation is a perfect homebase to explore the natural wonders of the area by hiking, cycling, sailing, kayaking, surfing, ATVing, fishing, and/or birdwatching, or to sit back and relax and soak up the rustic charms of the Isle Madame region.
Our accommodations feature six cozy, newly renovated rental units – three queen guestrooms, two guest suites and a two bedroom cottage – each named and themed as a tribute to The Beatles! Our ground level Inn room, the White Room, is wheelchair accessible. The two bedroom cottage includes a private hot tub and spectacular ocean views that makes it a perfect homebase for a small family or group while staying with us. Pet friendly rooms are available upon request – please contact us before booking to ensure we have pet friendly units available.
Outdoor Activities at The Groundswell
We are the perfect place to explore the great outdoors in Cape Breton Island. If you’re craving adventure, we offer kayak, standup paddleboard (SUP), and canoe rentals to our guests, allowing everyone to head out from our back lawn to explore the peaceful coves of Isle Madame.

We have become a hub for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, cyclers, kayakers, surfers, amblers, and ramblers, to gather – a place to discuss your latest trails, gather new info, share your adventures or just to relax, enjoy the music and soak up the atmosphere. Sit down, grab a pint, relax and talk to friends or meet explorers from near and far.
