Taste of Birchtown: Tour & Tasting

Explore Black Loyalist history in Birchtown with a guided museum tour, followed by a delicious meal and craft beer tasting at Boxing Rock Brewing.

Start with a guided tour of the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre and Heritage Site, where you’ll learn about Birchtown’s history as the largest free Black community in British North America. Explore exhibits, historic structures, the walking trail, burial grounds, and monument on Birchtown Bay.

Then visit Boxing Rock Brewing Company for a tasting flight featuring Back to Birchtown, an ale inspired by Black Loyalist history and created in collaboration with Change is Brewing, a BIPOC collective.

Package Includes:

• Guided 1.5-hour tour inside the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre, a world-class exhibit on the stories of some 3,000 Black Loyalists to Nova Scotia.
• Copy of Birchtown and the Black Loyalist Experience: From 1775 to Present, written by Stephen Davidson with photography by Peter Zwicker, chronicling the experiences of African American Loyalist refugees from the American Revolution and their arrival in Canada.
• Access to explore the Black Loyalist Heritage Site, including the one-room schoolhouse, church, and Black Loyalist Heritage Trail leading to stunning views of Birchtown Bay.
• Delicious meal and craft beer tasting flight at Boxing Rock Brewing Company.

Times: Choose an arrival time at the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre between 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. Visit Boxing Rock Brewing Company between 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday to Thursday or 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Friday.
