Discover the local history of the railway, the ferries, the fisheries and more when you visit the Mulgrave Heritage Museum and Visitor Centre.

Once the gateway to Cape Breton Island from mainland Nova Scotia, Mulgrave was home to the Scotia II ferry service that operated between 1833 and 1955 until the Canso Causeway was constructed. The museum building, fashioned after the Scotia II ferry which transported rail cars and passengers in their vehicles between mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island, is also home to displays on the town of Mulgrave, as well as local wartime, railway, fisheries, and African Nova Scotian history. Visitors can discover detailed models of the ferry and of other vessels that once sailed into Mulgrave and the Strait of Canso.

A must stop on the Marine Drive, Route 344, the Mulgrave Heritage Museum and Visitor Centre is open daily, 9am to 5pm, from late June to early September. Visit our website and Facebook page for information on our annual Tea by the Sea and Olde Fashioned Christmas events.
